Alert - H.R. 5, Student Success Act- Reauthorizes and changes the Elem. and Secondary Education Act
2/2/2015 12:00:01 AM by: FHE

Despite our continued position that the Federal Government has no Constitutional authority over education, H.R. 5 does not pose a threat to home education nor to private education institutions that forego federal funds (as currently written). In fact, it retains language that protects home educators and most private schools. Our good friends at HSLDA are monitoring this bill, and will put out a statement soon, which FHE will post or link at that time. HSLDA has shared a preview of their statement with FHE and we are currently in agreement with their position. This particular bill is a re-authorization, so much of the language we have fought for and won is replicated in the 610 page bill. While neither HSLDA nor FHE believe the Feds should be involved in education, as long as they are and place requirements on receiving funds, working for protection from Federal overreach is necessary, and Will Estrada and the team at HSLDA have been very successful in securing such protective language.

Please continue to support FHE & HSLDA as we monitor legislation, and fight to protect your parental rights.
